Cloud Chair: shaping sustainable living with 3D Printing image

With its playful, flowing design by Willo Design, the Cloud Chair produced by Decibel reimagines comfort through inspiration from nature and childhood memories. Produced locally using Caracol’s LFAM robotic platform and made with recycled materials, this sustainable and customizable seating piece blends aesthetic clarity with environmental responsibility.

Designed by Willo Design, the Cloud Chair evokes the ever-changing shapes of clouds, bringing back carefree moments of childhood. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings, the Cloud Chair strikes a balance between modern elegance, comfort, and nostalgic charm.

A sustainable, localized production model

The Cloud Chair embodies Decibel’s mission: to revolutionize furniture manufacturing with a circular, sustainable, on-demand approach. Designers aspire to make a positive impact but are often constrained by traditional systems and manufacturing processes: this chair demonstrates how LFAM technology enables responsible manufacturing, capable of shaping creative visions without limiting them with manufacturing compromises.

To bring the Cloud Chair to life, Decibel employs Caracol’s Large-Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) system Heron AM — a key technological enabler in this process. By utilizing recycled and recyclable materials such as rPET-G and rPET-G + 30% glass fiber, and by eliminating post-processing, the chair is manufactured with minimal waste and environmental impact.

Heron AM doesn’t just support sustainable production — it unlocks a new dimension of creative freedom for designers, enabling the realization of complex, organic forms that would be difficult or impossible to achieve through traditional manufacturing. This flexibility allows design and sustainability to move hand-in-hand, creating products that are not only responsible but also deeply expressive and tailored.

Heron AM: a driver of innovation in sustainable manufacturing

The partnership with Caracol and the use of Heron AM were essential in turning Decibel’s vision into reality. Caracol’s robotic LFAM platform enables efficient, customizable, and low-waste production, transforming how furniture is conceived and made. Localized production where the product is needed further reduces emissions and logistical impact, enabling a new era of distributed design.

At the same time, Heron AM empowers designers by removing the limitations imposed by conventional processes, supporting a more agile, experimental, and boundary-pushing approach to product development. From idea to execution, it provides the tools to transform bold concepts into functional, sustainable objects.

Beyond a product: a new vision for furniture

With the Cloud Chair, Decibel proves that sustainable design can be beautiful, scalable, and future-ready. Through a global network of designers and the integration of Caracol’s advanced 3D printing technologies, technologies such as Heron AM are cultivating a new culture of furniture, where each object embodies innovation, environmental responsibility, and artistic expression.

The Cloud Chair is living proof that the future of furniture isn’t just sustainable, it’s something we can all look forward to living with, made possible by the innovative Heron AM technology that brings cutting-edge efficiency, precision, and circularity to life while amplifying the creative potential of designers worldwide.
